My work is inspired by my deep involvement in meditation practice as well as my interest in diverse cultures experienced in extensive travels. In my paintings a diversity of forms and colors express the experience of inner states of consciousness - that of an expanded, highly energetic field. Into this space geometric forms mix comfortably with biomorphic and organic forms, and the whole space vibrates with the energy of color.
Trips to Bali and India over the past few years have led to a series of paintings that draw on the richness of that culture. In Bali I saw how spirituality, ritual, and ceremonial magic are all woven into dance, drama, art and life. The background of an astonishingly beautiful landscape moved me to record some of these impressions in a visual way. In my work I explore Bali as a state of mind, a place where the archetypes of the human psyche can come to life. A more recent trip to Africa continues to be a source of inspiration as I work in the studio.
For me, painting is a process of deepening into the unknown, of allowing impulses to have their way and following where these impulses lead.
My meditation practice nourishes my life and my art and as a facilitator of this deep meditation I am grateful to be able to share this process with others.
